Neptune - Healing Powers of the Sea

Q1: What are Neptune’s Indications for Use?

Neptune Pad is used to promote the rapid control of bleeding and provide hemostasis for lacerations, abrasions, vascular access sites and following surgical incision. It can be used to achieve hemostasis at the skin surface for arterial/venous catheterization tubes, needle puncture, hemodialysis and in patients on anticoagulation therapy.

Q2: What is referred to as the “Complete System”?

“Complete System” includes a patent pending disc with NEPTUNE to provide secure and even pressure over both arteriotomy and skin puncture site.

Q3: How does Neptune affect the Clotting Cascade (Describe)?

The Neptune topical hemostatic pad is a natural wound dressing derived from seaweed to facilitate the clotting process. Composed of calcium alginate fibers, Neptune provides topical calcium to the sheath insertion site. This allows for quicker and easier surface and tract hemostasis by accelerating the clotting process.

Q4: Does Neptune close off the arteriotomy?

Neptune works from the surface down the tract and affect the clotting cascade. It would be the same as what happens in manual pressure.

Q5: What are appropriate ACT levels for using Neptune?

TZ Medical suggests following your hospital protocol for pulling sheaths. Neptune has been used on a variety of ACT’s levels as low as 150 to as high as 300.

Q6: How does the nurse and/or physician determine a patients ambulation time after using Neptune?

We have seen patients ambulated earlier than 4-6 hours but we are obligated by the FDA to advise facilities to follow their manual pressure protocol for time to ambulation.

Q7: Can Neptune be used on interventional patients?

Yes

Q8: Describe how to administer the Neptune pad in five steps?

  • Moisten Neptune using a small amount of saline or dime size amount of blood.
  • Follow facility protocol for manual pressure. Place Neptune Pad over skin puncture site and apply pressure toward arteriotomy.
  • Upon hemostasis, cover Neptune with absorptive dressing.
  • Neptune may remain in place for up to 24 hours. To remove saturate with saline or use warm water.
  • Dispose of used Neptune per facility protocol.

Q9: Who does Neptune compete with (List product names and companies)?

  • Syvek, Marine Polymer Technologies Chitoseal, Abbott Vascular
  • D-Stat, Vascular Solutions Staysis, St. Jude Medical
  • Clo-Sur P.A.D., Medtronic Clo-Sur P.A.D.+ Scion Vascular
  • V-Pad InterV Medical

Q10: What is Neptune made of (material)?

Calcium Alginate derived from seaweed.

Q11: Why is Neptune less expensive as compared to the competition?

Calcium alginate is more abundant in supply and less expensive to manufacture.

Q12: Is there a subset of patients not recommended to use the EZ Hold or Clamp?

Extremely Obese patients

Q13: How long has TZ Medical been selling Neptune?

Since 2003

Q14: List the three weights of the EZ Holds?

Neptune EZ Hold comes in 1, 1.5 and 2 lb. weights.

    • Heart Aide EZd Looping Cardiac Event Recorder
    • Heart Aide Mini Non-Looping event recorder with direct chest electrodes

Q2: What is an event monitor and why does your patient need one?

An event monitor is a looping recorder that is connected to electrodes on a patient’s chest. It is used to capture transient arrhythmias and give the physician another piece of the puzzle in diagnosing a patient’s heart condition.

Q3: What is a pacemaker monitor and why does your patient need one?
